The launch of Anthropic’s coding tool, Claude Code, is off to a rocky start. According to reports on GitHub, Claude Code’s auto-update function contained buggy commands that rendered some workstations unstable and broken. When Claude Code was installed at the “root” or “superuser” levels — permissions that give programs the ability to make operating system-level changes — the buggy commands would let applications modify typically restricted file directories and, in the worst-case scenario, “brick” systems. The problematic Claude Code auto-update commands changed the access permissions of certain critical system files. Permissions define which programs and users can read or modify…
For the past 16 years, NVIDIA technologies have been working behind the scenes of every Academy Award-nominated film for Best Visual Effects. This year, three NVIDIA researchers — Essex Edwards, Fabrice Rousselle and Timo Aila — have been honored with Scientific and Technical Awards by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their groundbreaking contributions to the film industry. Their innovations in simulation, denoising and rendering are helping shape the future of visual storytelling, empowering filmmakers to create even more breathtaking and immersive worlds. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, used the inaugural episode of his new podcast to break from progressives by speaking out against allowing transgender women and girls to compete in female sports.Newsom made his declaration in an extended conversation with conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old who built the influential Turning Point USA organization that helped President Donald Trump increase his support last fall among the youngest generation of voters. Kirk, like Trump, has been a vocal opponent of allowing transgender women and girls to participate. “I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree…
Trump administration cuts to teacher training grants are putting a strain on rural school systems, which have relied on the money to help address teacher shortages. In an overhaul at an agency President Donald Trump has described as being infiltrated by “ radicals, zealots and Marxists,” the Education Department last month cut $600 million in grants to the training programs, which it characterized as supporting divisive ideologies. Trump has said he wants to close the department, and new Education Secretary Linda McMahon has laid out how it could be dismantled.Federal money makes up a significant portion of budgets in some…

A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 21 Starlink satellites was launched by SpaceX from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on March 2. Liftoff took place at 9:24 p.m. ET on March 3, with the mission including 13 satellites equipped with direct-to-cell capabilities. The first stage of the rocket successfully landed on the droneship “Just Read the Instructions” stationed approximately 400 kilometres off Florida’s coast. However, the booster, designated B1086, was lost shortly after landing due to damage sustained by one of its landing legs.Booster Loss After LandingAccording to SpaceX, a fire at the aft end of the booster resulted in structural…
Helium-3, a rare isotope formed during the early solar system, may be locked within Earth’s solid core, as indicated by recent research. This discovery could provide insights into how quickly the planet was formed. Unlike helium-4, which is commonly produced through radioactive decay, helium-3 originates from the primordial gas cloud that shaped the solar system. While traces of this isotope have been detected in volcanic hotspots and mid-ocean ridges, the mechanism behind its retention for billions of years remains uncertain. Given helium’s volatile nature, most of it was expected to escape Earth’s mantle due to tectonic activity or the giant…
The scheduled test flight of SpaceX’s Starship Flight 8, which was expected to take off from the company’s Starbase facility in Texas on March 3, has been postponed due to last-minute technical issues. The launch was planned within a window starting at 6:30 p.m. ET with a mission to test various aspects of the rocket’s performance, including booster recovery and satellite deployment. SpaceX has not yet announced a new launch date, but updates are expected soon. The flight was set to be the eighth major test for Starship, which is designed to be the most powerful rocket ever built.Starship’s Mission…
A major breakthrough in electron beam technology has been achieved by a team of physicists at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, California. The highest-current and highest-peak-power electron beams ever generated have been reported, with a peak of 100 kiloamps sustained for just one quadrillionth of a second. This advancement, based on compressing electron bunches into extremely short bursts, could open new possibilities in chemical research, plasma studies, and fundamental physics by enhancing energy transfer processes.Breakthrough in Beam CompressionAccording to the study published in Physical Review Letters, researchers used a particle accelerator to push high-energy electron beams to speeds…
Singer Katy Perry has been confirmed as part of an all-female crew preparing to launch into space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. The suborbital flight, scheduled for this spring, will include a team of accomplished professionals, including STEMBoard CEO and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen and mission leader Lauren Sánchez. The flight will mark a significant milestone, being the first all-female space mission since cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s historic 1963 mission.According to Reports, the Mission Aims to Inspire Future GenerationsAs per Blue Origin’s statement, the…
